Kate's Campaign
Free travel in West Berkshire for the registered disabled

Local people are campaigning to keep the paths across the golf course open. Kate Green is campaigning for free bus travel for the registered disabled in West Berkshire.

About my campaign

Welcome to my campaign for free local bus travel for people in West Berkshire who are registered disabled.

Being able to travel free of charge within West Berkshire and to and from Reading will make it easier for disabled people to socialise and go shopping like everyone else. It will help to bring the community together. I won’t ever be able to drive a car but even when I can use my bus pass, the fares soon mount up.

I started this campaign on October 22, 2005 with a petition which called on West Berkshire Council "to allow people who are registered as disabled to travel free of charge on bus services within the District and to Reading".

463 people have signed the petition and I presented it to West Berkshire Council on 13th December, 2005.

If you are one of the many people who signed the petition or who helped collect signatures, many thanks for your help. It will make a huge difference to me and many other disabled people in West Berkshire.

Having started this campaign, I am now part of the following Disability Groups in west Berkshire:

New campaign - seatbelts for those in wheelchairs

I'm also starting my next project to get public buses to have seatbelts fitted for those in wheelchairs.

The photos below show a friend of mine (Racheal Wild) who is a wheelchair user but she can't travel on buses because there are no seatbelts.
